從1965年獲得皇家許可證，頒發學位開始，Essex一直以來都是默默耕耘，致力於建立一個研究及教學品質兼具高水準的全球知名大學，並奉行平等及和平原則對待每一個來Essex唸書的學生。短短的五十多年間，Essex也蘊孕出不同領域的優秀人材。

★ 1987年諾貝爾和平獎得主-前哥斯大黎加總統Óscar Arias就是在Essex就讀他的政治學博士學位

★ 2010年諾貝爾經濟學獎獲得主，Christopher A. Pissarides，在Essex完成他的經濟學土和碩土學位

目前共分三個校區，主校區Colchester校區是位於英格蘭(England)東部的丘切斯特(Colchester)，是個英格蘭最古老且非常有歷史感的城鎮。Loughton校區是位於倫敦西北方的路頓(Loughton)小鎮。Southend校區是位於東南部的南端(Southend-on-Sea) 靠海邊的小鎮。

Essex在機器人研發領域具有世界領先水平。近年新建的機器人研究實驗室將承擔新型智能機器人的研發、設計、製造工作，並獲得了英國工程與物理學研究理事會提供的資金資助。

Essex另一個著名的學院， East 15 Acting School，是世界知名的英國電影學院其中一員，同時也是Conference of Drama Schools的成員，50年間，本學院訓練出數不盡的優秀演員、導演及技術人員。
